OUR STORY
The History of Gunboat Mountain Ranch
Gunboat Mountain, which is located on the ranch, has been a staple of Donley County since the early 1900s. We've been able to find several mentions of the mountain throughout early editions of the Clarendon Enterprise, some dating back to the 1920s. The mountain served as a gathering place for the community to enjoy picnics and celebrate big events. It's easy to understand why. It's long been rumored to be the highest point in Donley County. While we're not sure that rumor is accurate, we do know that the view from the top of the mountain is amazing. On a clear day, you can see all the way to Kansas.
Gunboat Mountain Ranch has been owned by a handful of people over the years. Currently, the ranch is owned by the Gentry family, who purchased what they refer to as their oasis in the Panhandle, in 2004.
The Gentry's have a passion for big game animals and have worked to populate the ranch with native animals while adding in exotic breeds such as zebra, elands, gemsboks, and more.
The Gentry's are true stewards of the land and work hard to ensure the land is cared for so that future generations will be able to enjoy it as much as those from the past.
